GE13: Group comes up with musical to soothe GE13 tensions away
The musical offers everyone a reprieve from the excitement of the elections. PETALING JAYA: Chow Kit Road! Chow Kit Road! could be just what Ma-laysians need to recover from the intense general election.
The musical, which opened yesterday, features more than 20 songs by the late Datuk Sudirman Arshad.
It tells the story of a young ragamuffin from Chow Kit Road who gets entangled in a wager by a snobbish socialite who wants to turn him into a gentleman.
It is written by Amry Ruhayat and Saw Teong Hin.
“I think this musical is a great antidote to all the emotion that is being felt post-election. It's fun and funny and also very moving because it touches on the themes of reconciliation, accepting each others' differences and also accepting who we are and where we come from,” Saw said.
Chow Kit Road! Chow Kit Road! producer Sabera Shaik said: “It's for everyone; if you are happy about the outcome of the election, you should come celebrate. If you're sad, it will lift your spirits. If you feel like crying, there are some very moving scenes.”
Both Saw and Sabera's optimism stemmed from the positive reviews from the preview.
Chow Kit Road! Chow Kit Road! boasts of an accomplished cast including actress/singer and Suria FM deejay Adibah Noor, Akademi Fantasia alum and actor Anding Indrawani, Tony Eusoff, Shanthini Venugopal, Nadia Aqilah and Junji Delfino.
Chow Kit Road! Chow Kit Road! runs until May 26 at the Istana Budaya in Kuala Lumpur. Tickets are priced at RM170, RM100 and RM50.
