Compiled by EILEEN NG, ALLISON LAI and A. RAMAN

THE plight of a man who made three police reports following an attack on him by thugs was the subject of a Tamil Nesan report.

It reported that U. Malarchelvan had complained that police had not taken any action over his reports.

He said he was attacked by four men in his house in Aman Jaya, Sungei Petani, in June 2012. He was punched and was left unconscious.

He said in his report at the Kuala Muda district police station that he could identify his assailants.

He said police arrested two people but they were subsequently released on bail. Malarchelvan said he was surprised that police had not taken any action against the other two.

His last police report was made on April 29 at the same police station.

> A 94-year-old man who remained silent since 1951 after being affected by Mahatma Ghandi's assassination created a stir when he started speaking two days ago, Makkal Osai reported.

Vaiyapuri from Shivapuri village in Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu, operates a tea stall in his village.

When Gandhi was shot dead, he was shocked and suffered depression. For the next three years, the only words he uttered were “Gandhi was shot”, and from 1951, he refused to talk and only communicated by writing.
