GE13: PKR leader: Meeting held over choosing Selangor MB
PETALING JAYA: A PKR branch leader confirmed that a meeting of party representatives was held on Monday over the issue of choosing the Selangor Mentri Besar.
Kuala Langat PKR chief David Cheong confirmed the meeting was held at the Empire Hotel on the night of May 6 with more than 30 Selangor PKR members present.
De facto Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and party deputy president Azmin Ali were also aware of the meeting, which was chaired by Sri Muda assemblyman Shuhaimi Shafiei.
“There were PKR members and branch leaders present, including Selayang MP William Leong, former Selangor state exco member Dr Xavier Jayakumar and Ampang MP Zuraida Kamarudin.
“Zuraida said Azmin had a headache, and conveyed his apologies for not being able to attend,” he said.
Cheong said that many had thrown their support behind Khalid as he had the people's support.
“Leong, for instance, said he was 100% behind Khalid as he had done a good job,” Cheong said, adding that Shuhaimi had promised to prepare a report on the meeting and to hand it to Anwar.
Azmin claimed yesterday that party president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail had given the Selangor Sultan a list of her picks for MB but none of the assembly representatives or MPs was informed.
He said there should have been discussions between party leaders and representatives and implied that there was nepotism in PKR.
