PETALING JAYA: In an about turn, PKR deputy president Azmin Ali tweeted Saturday that he wants Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim to continue as the mentri besar for Selangor.

“We must support Khalid to continue,” he said in his tweet.

“My focus is to be an effective MP,” he said.

In the days after the May 5 general election, when Pakatan decisively retained Selangor, the Selangor PKR chief had said the next mentri besar should not be a “lame duck” who allowed himself to be led by others, in a dig widely seen as aimed at Khalid.

He had said that Khalid's leadership style was no different from his Barisan predecessors, adding that it was still too bureaucratic for a reformist party.

In a packed press conference on Friday, he also launched a thinly veiled attack against president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail for failing to consult Selangor party leaders over who should be the mentri besar.

Meanwhile, supporters of Azmin and Khalid went to battle in cyberspace, making their allegiance known even as Azmin claimed he was not gunning for the mentri besar post.

PKR's partners, DAP and PAS, have made it clear they want Khalid to continue as Selangor mentri besar.
