NIBONG TEBAL: Thousands of Pakatan Rakyat supporters, mostly dressed in black, gathered at the Batu Kawan Stadium here for the second of Pakatan Rakyat's rallies to protest against the 13th general election results.

Pakatan supporters, mostly dressed in black, turned up from as early as 4pm on Saturday to avoid the traffic jam even though the rally only began at 8.30pm.

Traffic was at a slow crawl for several kilometres along major roads leading to the stadium.

The field was full of people, and at 10pm, the crowd was still pouring into the stadium to fill up the stands. Many had walked for 5km or more, as they had trouble parking their vehicles.

Among the speakers were de facto Opposition Leader and PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and PAS deputy president Mohamed Sabu, better known as Mat Sabu.

Anwar arrived with his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail at 8.15pm, along with Penang PKR chairman and newly elected Nibong Tebal MP Datuk Mansor Othman.

Around 10pm, one of the emcees expressed disappointment over certain unscrupulous people who were pretending to be Pakatan officials and collecting funds from the crowd.

He told the thousands gathered there that the officials were using plastic containers and not plastic bags for the collection.

At 10.45pm, Mat Sabu told the crowd that he was one of those who walked 5km, and the crowd outside the stadium was three times the amount of people inside.

Lim arrived at 10.55pm and said he took two hours to reach the stadium amidst the traffic jam.

Unlike Pakatan's first rally in Kelana Jaya on Wednesday, there was a strong police presence to oversee traffic and public safety.

It was reported that the organiser had submitted a notice to the district police chief about the rally, as stated in the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.

Pakatan's next rally is at Medan Istana Ipoh in Perak on Sunday, followed by in Kuantan on Tuesday and in Johor Baru on Wednesday.
