Name candidate for Selangor MB, PAS urged
Warm welcome: Idris (left) embracing Dr Hasan at the Yasin recital in Seri Negeri, Malacca. — Bernama MALACCA: Former Selangor PAS commissioner Datuk Dr Hasan Ali has urged the state PAS to submit the name of its candidate for the mentri besar post, saying that such an opportunity does not come easy.
Dr Hasan, who became Jalur Tiga (Jati) president after he was sacked from PAS, said the Islamist party had numerous professional candidates who were qualified to administer and bring the state to greater heights, reported Bernama.
“The people of Selangor, where the Malays are the majority, want a leader who is capable of developing the state in an Islamic way, just like in Kelantan and Kedah,” he told reporters after attending a Yasin recital at the new Malacca Chief Minister Datuk Idris Haron’s office in Seri Negeri here.
Dr Hasan was commenting on the delay in the appointment of Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim as Selangor Mentri Besar despite DAP, PKR and PAS’ endorsement of him in a letter to the palace.
On Friday, PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang was reported as saying that PKR’s Khalid should be reappointed as mentri besar although PKR only won 14 state seats in the 13th general election as compared to 15 seats each won by PAS and DAP.
In Kuala Lumpur, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng wants the matter to be settled quickly, adding that any further delay would not be good for Pakatan Rakyat or the state.
Lim, who is also the Penang Chief Minister, said any internal problem in PKR should not spill over to the administration in the state.
Maintaining his party’s endorsement for Khalid as mentri besar, he insisted that DAP would not be a part of “PKR’s internal problems”.
In asking for the mentri besar to be quickly appointed, Lim said the party was merely voicing the concerns of Selangorians.
On Friday, PKR deputy president Azmin Ali, who is said to be eyeing the mentri besar post, had hit out at his party president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail for failing to consult the state PKR leaders before informing the palace of its choice candidate.
