IPOH: Twelve non-governmental bodies have lodged police reports against a rally planned by Pakatan Rakyat in Ipoh today.

Speaking on behalf of the NGOs, Perak Barisan Nasional Youth secretary Shamsul Bahrain Putra Ahmad Shibi said the rally would cause unnecessary disruption to the country's peace and harmony.

Shamsul Bahrain, who lodged a report at the Sungai Senam police station as the Perak City Affairs Secretariat chairman, hit out at Pakatan for only harping on claims that the general election was carried out fraudulently in the states they lost.

“Why aren't they saying that the Election Commission was not fair in the states of Penang, Selangor and Kelantan where Pakatan won? This is PKR leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's way of instigating and lying to the people.

“He should just retire from politics,” he said yesterday.

Among the NGOs that lodged the reports were Suara Anak Muda 1Malaysia, Perak Peace, Kesatuan Anak Muda Islam Perak, Perkasa, Belia 4B and Malaysian Association of Youth Clubs.

The rally is expected to be held in front of the state PKR headquarters in Medan Istana.

Meanwhile, Perak police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan advised people to stay away from the rally, adding that the organiser had not received permission for the event.

“The organiser met with the district police chief on Friday to obtain permission. However, the application was rejected for not adhering to several conditions under the Peaceful Assembly Act,” he said, adding that the police had received 64 reports against the gathering.
