JOHOR BARU: The offer was too good but it was true.

Second-hand motorcycles going for as low as RM80 were sold within a minute during an auction organised by the Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) here.

Vegetable farm owner Ghazali Karim, 51, was delighted to buy three motorcycles at just RM360. He plans to use them to get around his farm in Kota Tinggi.

“It was a sweet deal. Second-hand motorcycles in the market could easily cost RM500 each,” he said when met at the auction at the MBJB storehouse in Taman Mount Austin here.

Ghazali said that he did not mind the condition of the motorcycles as he could send them for repairs before his workers start using them.

The biggest buyer at the auction was 36-year-old car repair workshop owner Syed Ilham Syed Jaafar, who clinched a RM18,400 deal for six vehicles two 4WDs and delivery vans.

The seasoned bidder from Pengerang said that he would usually purchase cars at auctions held by local councils.

He would then spruce up the vehicles before reselling them.

“I managed to outbid others for two Mitsubishi Pajero models at RM5,200 and RM7,300. After repairing them, I can resell each one for about RM15,000,” he said.

As for the cheaper van models that he bought for RM400, he planned to sell them as scrap metal to get some profits.

“I enjoy the bidding process. I get a thrill from outbidding others to seal a deal,” he quipped.

The vehicles and other items were mostly confiscated during the council's raids.

They were up for bidding at a fraction of the market price.

Prices started from as low as 50 sen to RM9,000.
