ALOR SETAR: Newly-appointed Mentri Besar Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir is assembling a suitable team of executive councillors to help him move Kedah towards developed-state status.

The line-up will be made public soon.

Mukhriz has scheduled four-eyed meetings with Barisan Nasional assemblymen at Wisma Darul Aman today.

But there will not be any press conference.

Mukhriz had said that the executive council line-up would be announced before Wednesday.

Of the 21 Barisan assemblymen, two are from MCA and the rest from Umno.

Gerakan and MIC were wiped out in Kedah in the elections.

MCA had declined to accept any government posts in view of its dismal performance nationwide.

The two MCA candidates for state seats, Dr Leong Yong Kong (Gurun) and Chua Thiong Gee (Kulim), have also been invited to the meeting.

Mukhriz had said he would study thoroughly the portfolios of all the Barisan assemblymen before making his selection.

He had also said that state Barisan chief Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah, who won the Bakar Bata state seat for a fourth term, would be given an important role to play.
