RoS expects full explanation from DAP

PUTRAJAYA: The Registrar of Societies (RoS) expects a full explanation from DAP over alleged irregularities in the party’s central executive committee (CEC) election.

RoS director-general Datuk Abdul Rahman Othman said DAP should now concentrate on resolving the issue.

“If before this those called for interviews said they could not come due to the elections, now I don’t see any excuse.

“I expect a full commitment and cooperation from them,” he told journalists here yesterday.

The CEC election in December last year became controversial when a recalculation revealed that DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng’s political secretary Zairil Khir Johari, who had initially received 305 votes, clinched 803 votes.

Zairil became a CEC member while another member, Vincent Wu, was dropped.

The error was attributed to a technical glitch and disgruntled members later lodged complaints with the RoS claiming that it was manipulated.

Abdul Rahman said they have so far recorded statements from eight people comprising six complainants and two of the party’s office bearers including Guan Eng.

Abdul Rahman also stressed that RoS has no intention of deregister-ing DAP as claimed by certain quarters.

“They are saying this based on our letter to DAP that RoS did not recognise the committee elected in the Dec 15 elections,” he said.
