Azmin Ali is now throwing his support for Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim to continue in the post as Selangor MB. PETALING JAYA: A day after PKR deputy president Azmin Ali launched a thinly veiled attack against his own president for failing to consult Selangor party leaders over who should be mentri besar, he is supposedly throwing his support behind Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim to continue in the post.
“We must support Khalid to continue,” he tweeted yesterday.
However, efforts to contact him to verify the tweet were unsuccessful.
He was responding to Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin's tweet saying: “@AzminAli Looking forward to your turn, YB Gombak. Insya'Allah. #MightyDuck @menteribesarn9”.
Azmin also tweeted in an earlier post: “My focus is to be an effective MP”.
It was reported that the Selangor PKR chief had fired the first salvo by saying that the next mentri besar should not be a “lame duck” who allowed himself to be led by others.
The reference was seen as a dig at Khalid.
Azmin had said that his unhappiness stemmed from the failure of PKR leadership to engage Selangor assemblymen, MPs and division leaders in the selection process and not because he was eyeing the mentri besar post.
Meanwhile, people took to Twitter yesterday to give their opinion of Azmin, with some taking a swipe at him and others supporting him.
Liv Yam tweeted: “He is a drama queen #AzminReveals I want khalid as a mb of Selangor. Sincerely, a Selangorian”.
David Yong said the rakyat should be the one to decide on the Selangor Mentri Besar.
“Rakyat shud decide who be the MB, n the people are happy with khalid.. So why change? #azminreveals”, he wrote.
Rawinder Singh Ranu said he was saddened by this “azmin ali fiasco”.
“One would think this is the time we should move forward NOT fight for MB's post. Pls see the bigger pic”, he said.
Meanwhile, Badrul Hisyam wrote: “Azmin Ali's honesty showed quality in him. His constructive criticism saves the party and its struggle (Kejujuran saudara @AzminAli menunjukkan kualiti pada dirinya. Kritikan membina menyelamatkan parti dan perjuangan)”.
