KUALA PILAH: Newly-elected MPs and assemblymen have been told to be neutral in performing their duties, without political bias.

Negri Sembilan Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir advised the representatives not to betray the trust bestowed upon them by the rakyat.

“We remind all public officials to serve the government of the day with honour and dedication,” he said in a statement yesterday, urging the leaders to always maintain decorum when debating issues during the state assembly.

“We wish to remind all elected representatives that you have been entrusted by the rakyat to represent them, voice their concerns and protect their interests through your actions and decisions.

“As elected representatives, you are responsible for all our rakyat regardless of their political preferences, ethnicity or religious beliefs,” he added.

Tuanku Muhriz called on state Barisan Nasional chief Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, who was reappointed as Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar for a third term, to ensure that all the state government departments and agencies would be free from fraud, abuse of power and corruption.

Second term: Ahmad Said (left) being sworn in before Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin at the Istana Maziah in Kuala Terengganu. Second term: Ahmad Said (left) being sworn in before Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin at the Istana Maziah in Kuala Terengganu.

Mohamad, 57, who is also Negeri Sembilan Umno chief, was reappointed to the post after leading Barisan in winning 22 out of 36 state seats in the 13th general election.

He was first appointed as the menteri besar on March 25, 2004 and reappointed for the second term after the 2008 polls.

Mohamad, in his loyalty pledge, said although the responsibilities entrusted to him were heavy, he promised to fulfil them to the best of his ability for the race, religion and nation.

He said unity and cooperation from all quarters were the most important factor in driving the state in line with the country's development as underlined in the ongoing 10th Malaysia Plan.

In Kuala Terengganu, Datuk Seri Ahmad Said was sworn in as Terengganu Mentri Besar for a second term.

The 56-year-old Kijal assemblyman took his oath of office before Terengganu ruler Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin at Istana Maziah here yesterday.

Also sworn in were the 10 state executive council members.

Seberang Takir assemblyman Datuk Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman, Telemong assemblyman Rozi Mamat and Kuala Besut assemblyman Dr A. Rahman Mokhtar were the only ones retained from the previous state exco line-up.

Kuala Berang assemblyman Datuk Tengku Putera Tengku Awang, who was the state speaker, is among the new faces in the line-up.

The other exco members are Permaisuri assemblyman Datuk Mohd Jidin Shafie, Kemasik assemblyman Rosli Othman, Hulu Besut assemblyman Nawi Mohamad, Pengkalan Berangan assemblyman A. Latiff Awang, Bukit Besi assemblyman Roslee Daud and Ajil assemblyman Ghazali Taib.
