Woman falls to her death from apartment’s 18th floor
Tragic end: Chew weeping beside her mother’s body as authorities prepare to take it away. GEORGE TOWN: A woman, who had been suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure, fell to her death from the 18th floor of an apartment in Lengkok Angsana, Bandar Baru Air Itam.
The body of Ooi Chin Lian, 59, was found lying face down on the fifth floor at the open space of the apartment block.
A neighbour, who found the body, called the police yesterday afternoon.
A neighbour, who declined to be named, said Ooi felt distressed since her husband died about a year ago.
“Soon after that, she met with an accident and injured her hands. She could not work after that, and it really bothered her,” she said.
Ooi’s daughter Chew Ai Yin, 41, said her mother had been complaining of discomfort from her illnesses.
“She had been complaining of poor appetite lately. She had tried to take her life a few times but we managed to stop her.
“We have been keeping watch on her all the time,” she said, adding that Ooi had gone for regular check-ups at the Penang Hospital.
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Gan Kong Meng said one of her daughters was asleep when Ooi fell to her death, adding that the other family members were at work.
“Investigation is still ongoing although we have temporarily classified the case as sudden death,” he said.
