Luxury at its finest: The crowd admiring the Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 at the Metro Avenue in Jelutong. GEORGE TOWN: It was a rare treat for Penangites when a convoy of 77 Lamborghinis tore down the streets as part of the luxury sports car's 50th anniversary celebration.
Members of the Lamborghini Owners Malaysia (LOM) drove up north to Batu Ferringhi after making pit-stops in Bukit Tinggi and Cameron Highlands.
The convoy featuring cars from Malaysia and Singapore was part of the 50th Anniversary Asia Drive (50AAD).
It was also held simultaneously with the Lamborghini Grand Tour in Italy.
“We, the Malaysian owners, were unable to participate in the Grand Tour in Italy.
“So, we decided to organise our own drive,” said organising director Dr Rodwin Bahadur, who drove the exclusive Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale (Gallardo STS).
Lamborghini KL chief operating officer Marcus Chye said there were currently 156 Lamborghini owners in Malaysia but the number should grow to 190 by the end of the year.
The cars, which were parked at the Metro Avenue in Jelutong yesterday, drew a huge crowd eager to snap photographs.
The convoy also included the company's latest V12 model, the 10 Aventador LP 700-4, which replaced the Murcielago in 2011.
Other top attractions were the Murcielago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce, Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera and the vintage model Countach.
Italian Ferrucio Lamborghini founded the luxury sports car brand in 1963, the manufacurer of legendary V12 machines such as the Miura, Countach and the Diablo.
The brand is now present in 45 countries, operating through a network of more than 120 dealers.
The heart of Lamborghini's production remains at its home in Sant'Agata Bolognese, the same place where the factory's foundation was laid 50 years ago.
