Zaidon and family involved in accident, wife killed

MUAR: Youth and Sports Ministry deputy secretary-general Datuk Zaidon Asmuni and his wife, Datin Halimah Awaludin, were involved in a tragic road crash that took her life along the North-South Expressway, near Tangkak, about 28km from here.

Zaidon and two of the couple's children, aged 12 and 21, were injured in the 11.40pm incident on Saturday and were rushed to the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital here.

Ledang district police chief Supt Harun Idris said Halimah, Zaidon's wife who suffered serious body injuries, died at the scene of the incident and her body was sent to the Tangkak Hospital for a post-mortem.

He said the family was travelling from Putrajaya in their chauffeur-driven Perdana V6 and heading towards Batu Pahat when the driver lost control and collided with a truck.

The car than swung towards a road divider and crashed. The drivers of the car and truck were not hurt in the accident, Supt Harun said.

Muar MP Datuk Razali Ibrahim, who is Deputy Youth and Sports Minister in the outgoing Cabinet, rushed to the hospital on being informed of the incident to share his grief with the bereaved family and to offer his condolences to Zaidon over his wife's death.
