GE13: Johor police to take action against rally organisers

By ZAZALI MUSA

JOHOR BARU: Police will take action against the organisers of Pakatan Rakyat's rally due to be held this Wednesday for not adhering to several conditions under the Peaceful Assembly Act.

Johor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said the organiser had failed to notify the police 10 days before holding the event.

Pakatan plans to hold a rally at Dataran Bandaraya Johor Baru on Wednesday to protest the 13th general election results.

He said a representative from PKR only submitted the party's notification to the Johor Baru South OCPD ACP Zainuddin Yaakob last Saturday.

"The political party should know better when to submit the permit and I do not have to teach them how to do it," DCP Mohd Mokhtar said in a press conference on Monday.

He said this at the launch of the Johor police E-Alerts web portal for smart phone users to get latest information on non-emergency cases and send input to the police force.

DCP Mohd Mokhtar said police would take safety and security aspects into account when approving permits for peaceful assembly to avoid unnecessary risks.

"We also received reports from Johoreans voicing their concerns on the rally and wanted police to take action against the organiser," he said.

DCP Mohd Mokhtar also advised members of the public not to attend the event.
