Nansian must explain why he supported Dr Tiki
KUCHING: Mas Gading MP Anthony Nogeh Gumbek said he had no problem working with Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Peter Nansian but stressed that the latter must first explain to the people why he was supporting independent candidate Datuk Dr Tiki Lafe in the just-concluded 13th general election.
“While I appreciate his statement that he wanted to work together with me, he (Nansian) must first explain to the people in Mas Gading why he did not help us during the election.
“We also received report that he silently supported the independent candidate (Dr Tiki) during the election,” said Nogeh during an appreciation lunch with community leaders and the party workers in Lundu yesterday.
Nogeh said he was thankful to Opar assemblyman Ranum Mina for helping him and the Barisan Nasional during the election.
“It has been a tough time for everyone. As the candidate I did get panicky sometimes but I am thankful that I had all of you who were working very hard to achieve this victory.
“I promise to work closely with YB Ranum after this. Any federal fund that comes and is channelled through me I will discuss with him, and any project for the community and the constituency we will discuss it together,” said Nogeh.
After Nogeh’s victory Nansian has made a hasty statement that he wanted to reconcile and work together with Nogeh in the spirit of Barisan.
SPDP leaders and supporters had questioned Nansian’s motives in making the statement as they still could not forget and forgive Nansian and Dr Tiki for what they had done to the party and its leaders and members.
They said they still could not accept Nansian’s sandiwara (acting) after he did so much damage in disuniting the community.
In fact, they had even suggested that their positions in the government should be reviewed.
They said Nansian and Dr Tiki must be held responsible for all those members of Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) and government servants who were supporting Dr Tiki in his campaign against Barisan.
Nansian who holds two assistant minister portfolios, said he did not anticipate any problem cooperating with Nogeh as they were in the same BN boat.
Nansian had said he chose to be neutral during the 15 days of campaigning in Mas Gading but his explanation was not accepted by SPDP leaders and members as they believed the latter was the mastermind behind Dr Tiki’s candidacy.
Nogeh defeated Dr Tiki after garnering 8,265 votes to win by a majority of 2,156.
