KUCHING: Those enjoying a lazy Sunday afternoon stroll at the Museum Garden were treated to a musical performance as the 19th instalment of the Kuching City North Commission’s (DBKU) Musical Sundays kicked off.

The weather was just perfect as this month’s band, family trio EmCare & Intan Buskers took to the stage at the bandstand yesterday.

Fronted by seven-year-old Intan Ruhida Mohammad along with father Mohammad Bakri on guitar and brother Amierul on bass, the band was formed three years ago and has been making regular appearances at the Kuching Waterfront, playing a mix of sentimental tunes and modern hits in their own acoustic style.

“This is a great platform for up-and-coming bands to showcase their talents to an audience, at absolutely no charge,” acting event executive producer Shareena Mohd Salleh told reporters.

“All they have to do is show up with their instruments, and we will take care of the rest.

“DBKU has always had a vision of creating ‘A City With A Soul’, and it’s activities like this that add a bit flavour to the city.

“Volunteer bands are always welcome to sign up for such event, which is held on the second Sunday of every month. Word of mouth regarding this little get-together has been spreading, so it’s the perfect opportunity for bands to get their music heard,” she added.

The Buskers performed plenty of nostalgic as well as familiar songs, including Najwa Latif’s Sahabat, Penghibur Jalanan by Amir Hahari and even Selena Gomez’s I Love You Like A Love Song.

An audience began to form around the bandstand to watch the little girl belt out tunes on her guitar and ukulele, as her father and brother strummed on their guitars. People in the crowd even went on stage to join the band in singing a couple of their songs, as others clapped and sang along.

Those interested in finding out more or want to join the event can call DBKU at 082 - 446 688 or email crd@dbku.gov.my for further details.
