DESPITE having lost in the 13th general election, PSM deputy chairman M. Saraswathy will not stop serving the community.

She said the doors of PSM’s three service centres in Jelapang, Taman Rishah and Pusing would always be open to people who needed assistance.

“We will be opening another centre in Lahat soon,” she told reporters after a post-mortem session on her defeat in the GE13, on Friday.

She said PSM, which was Opposition-friendly, would beef up its effort to empower Malaysians, who were beginning to learn their rights as citizens.

Saraswathy said she would deliver her manifesto, which paid importance to the environment, assessment rates and illegal squatters.

“Not being elected as an assemblyman will not stop me from fighting for the underprivileged communities,” she said.

Saraswathy, who contested for the Jelapang state seat, garnered only 2,568 votes in the May 5 polls hence losing her deposit.

DAP’s Teh Hock Ke won the seat with 16,921 votes.

Saraswathy said one of the reasons that had contributed to her loss, was that voters recognised PSM Jelapang’s effort but many decided to go with the DAP candidate because of the ‘Ubah’ call.

During the 15-day campaigning period, she said certain quarters had adopted dirty tactics to sabotage her chance of winning.

“Many voters had received text messages stating that I did not need support from the Chinese.

“Some even implied that I would turn Barisan Nasional-friendly if I won in the elections.

“These are all blatant lies,” she said, adding that she and her team were disappointed with the malicious defamatory statements.

Nonetheless, Saraswathy said she was grateful to supporters who were by her side through thick and thin.
