DATUK Bandar Datuk Roshidi Hashim has not received information on the resignation of the Ipoh City councillors who were from MCA.

He said he was not sure if the six councillors from the party had submitted their resignation letters to the council.

“However, I noticed that they were all absent from the council’s one-stop service centre meeting last Wednesday,” he told reporters after launching the Tin City Ipoh development project in Falim and an exhibition themed “A Tin Mining Family” on Sunday.

It was reported that MCA local leaders would not take up any governmental posts following the party’s resolution to give up the positions should it fare worse in the May 5 general election compared to 2008 elections.

In 2008, MCA won 15 parliamentary seats and 31 state seats out of the 40 parliamentary and 90 states it contested.

The party, however only managed to win seven parliamentary and 11 states in GE13.

As a result of the poor performance, MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek has reiterated the party’s stand by urging its leaders to relinquish governmental posts such as councillors, village chiefs andmembers of hospital panels.

Roshidi said the remaining councillors from other political parties and non-governmental organisations would be unperturbed by the possible resignation of their counterparts.

“They will carry on with their duties as usual,” he said.

When asked on whether new councillors will be appointed, Roshidi said the council would wait for further instructions from the state government.
