Go see your reps first, says Chong

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Michael Chong (pic) has urged residents of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur to first approach their elected representatives for help before turning to him.

However, he promised that he would do his best to help them if their representatives were unable to.

“Since MCA is not going to participate in the new Cabinet, we are not very sure whether we are going to be very efficient as our hands will be tied,” he said yesterday.

However, Chong stressed he would do his best to assist the public with whatever resources available.

MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek reiterated on Saturday that the party would not take up any Government post after it achieved poorer results in the May 5 polls compared to the 2008 general election.

The party won just seven out of 37 parliamentary seats and 11 out of 90 state seats it contested.

Dr Chua had stressed that the decision was a resolution endorsed by the MCA general assembly in 2011 and 2012.

He also clarified that MCA service centres nationwide would continue to operate.

Chong thanked those who had given him encouragement and support as well as urged him not to give up serving.

“I must not forget that there are a lot of people who still support us. We will still strive on and do the best we can with whatever resources we have. It looks like we will have to work extra hard,” he said.

Chong said he had been doing full-time public service for 27 years, noting that over 20% of those who approached him for help were from the Malay and Indian communities.
