Doc held for posing as cop to extort businessman

The 24-year-old from Selangor is doing his housemanship at a hospital here while the others, aged 21 to 24, are college students.
Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Sum Chang Keong said the suspects who were in a car had blocked a businessman’s vehicle along Jalan Datuk Onn Jaafar at about 4.25am.
ACP Sum said the doctor came out of the car and had on a police vest with the rank of ASP.
He opened the victim’s car door, punched him on the chest, showed him an object resembling a pistol, and demanded RM350.
He said if the victim did not pay he would be brought to the Sungai Senam police station.
The man did not have that much cash on him so another suspect followed the victim in his car to a bank to withdraw the money.
“The ATM at the bank in Jalan Sultan Idris Shah was closed and the suspect then demanded RM450,” ACP Sum said at the Ipoh police headquarters yesterday.
He said the victim wanted to call his friend but was not allowed to. Luckily for the trader, a police patrol car which was acting on a tip-off rushed to the scene.
When police approached the doctor wearing the vest, he introduced himself as a police officer but failed to produce any police identification apart from a Malaysia Special Ranger Agency card.
All suspects were then arrested.
Besides the vest, police also confiscated a set of handcuffs and a toy pistol.
The four have been remanded until May 17.
