DAP wants RCI to investigate cause of May 13 incident

BATU PAHAT: DAP wants a Royal Commission of Inquiry to be established to investigate the May 13 incident.

Party adviser Lim Kit Siang said the rakyat is owed the truth on what really happened 44 years ago.

“It is time to have an RCI on May 13,” he told reporters at the DAP service centre here yesterday.

Lim, who is also Gelang Patah MP, said the nation could only be healed after Malaysians know the truth.

He also slammed Perkasa vice-president Datuk Zulkifli Noordin for saying DAP and he had been behind the country’s worst racial riots.

Lim also condemned former Appeals Court judge Datuk Mohd Noor Abdullah’s comments at a post GE13 forum.

Mohd Noor had called on Malays to strengthen their political and economic power so they would not be regarded as weak.

He said the results of the 13th general election and the Chinese tsunami showed the community had forgotten about the bond established 55 years ago.

Lim questioned why no action was taken against Mohd Noor by the Attorney-General and the police.

On a Malay daily’s frontpage story alleging DAP representatives had tried to bribe the Registrar of Societies so that the party would not be de-registered, Lim said it was irresponsible.

“It is unethical of the newspaper to publish rumours on its front page,’’ he said.
