Johor cops to act against organiser of planned Pakatan rally

JOHOR BARU: Police will take action against the organiser of Pakatan Rakyat’s rally tomorrow for not adhering to several conditions under the Peaceful Assembly Act.

Johor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said the organiser had failed to comply and notify the police 10 days before holding the event.

He said a representative from PKR only submitted the party’s notification to Johor Baru South OCPD ACP Zainuddin Yaakob on Saturday.

“The political party should know better about when to submit it and I do not have to teach them how to do it,’’ DCP Mohd Mokhtar said in a press conference yesterday after launching the Johor police E-Alerts web portal.

The portal provides smartphone users with the latest information on non-emergency cases and allows users to provide input to the police force.

Pakatan plans to hold its rally at Dataran Bandaraya Johor Baru tomorrow to protest the 13th general election results.

“We also received reports from peace-loving Johoreans voicing their concerns over the rally and they want police to take action against the organiser,’’ he said.

DCP Mohd Mokhtar also advised members of the public not to attend the event.
