IPOH: A customs officer has been nabbed for trying to get an inducement from shopkeepers selling contraband cigarettes in Taiping.

Perak police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan said the customs officer, who works in Penang, was arrested in Trong during a roadblock at about 4.40pm Monday.

"He had earlier asked for RM500 from a shopkeeper, who refused.

"The shopkeeper then told the customs officer to go to the police station, before fleeing," he told a press conference here Tuesday.

"Police then managed to stop and nab the customs officer at the roadblock," he said.
