KUALA LUMPUR: Police have refuted allegations that a picture showing scattered MyKads and ATM cards on social media was related to phantom voters.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the picture, which has gone viral, was actually of a robbery case in Kedah.

“We have checked the posting and we discovered the picture was actually of a robbery case two years ago.

“The cards were scattered while police was detaining the suspect. It has nothing to do with phantom voters,” he said adding that the suspect detained was involved in house break-in cases and snatch thefts.

Khalid told a press conference yesterday, that efforts by irresponsible groups were aimed at instilling panic and hatred.

“Do not believe in unverified information,” he said.
