GE13: Move to facilitate probe over officer’s ink report, says RMAF chief

PASIR MAS: Armed Forces chief Jen Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin says an RMAF officer was transferred pending investigations into his police report over the use of indelible ink in advance voting.

Jen Zulkifeli said the officer was on temporary attachment at a RMAF airbase in Kuala Lumpur, pending an internal investigation after he lodged the report on Wednesday.

“We have established our own board of investigations to look into the matter,” he told reporters after meeting army veterans at SMK Vokasional Tendong here yesterday.

It was reported that Mej Zaidi Ahmad, 45, from the Butterworth RMAF Airbase, along with his wife Shafinah Abdul Hamid, 47, and RMAF technician Jamal Ibrahim, 41, had lodged the reports claiming the ink had washed off easily.

Mej Zaidi said he received a letter on Friday informing him of the transfer with immediate effect.

Jen Zulkifeli said the transfer would ensure that the investigations are conducted in a fair manner.

“This will allow us to get to the bottom of the problem.

“We want to know how the indelible ink was washed off easily,” he said, adding that the investigations would take about a month, after which Mej Zaidi would be allowed to return to his previous camp.

On allegations that some 12,000 people holding Malaysian and Thailand identification documents would be voting illegally, Jen Zulkifeli said that the authorities have strengthened security along the border and are on the look out for such individuals.

Kelantan Barisan Nasional chief Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed lodged a police report on Friday, claiming he received information about the plan to bring in these people.

He believed it was orchestrated by politicians who wanted to win the elections using phantom voters.
