KUALA LUMPUR: Blue is the colour of the indelible ink being used on voters Sunday for the 13th general election.

The first indelible ink, a shade of red known as 'merah buah saga' (red bead) was used on advanced voters, comprising security forces and their spouses when they voted on April 30.

The Election Commission is using two different inks this elections to prevent double voting.

EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof had acknowledged there were hiccups in the initial use of the ink but the teething problems have been resolved.

On April 30, several advanced voters discovered that their markings could be washed off. The EC said this was because the officers had not followed the proper instructions on the bottle prior to using it.

The bottle needs to be shaken as the ink contains silver nitrate.

When properly used, the ink will take between five and seven days to wash off. The ink contains natural ingredients.

This is the first time in the country's history that the indelible ink is being used in a general election.
