GE13: Pencil markings accepted, says EC

PUTRAJAYA: The Election Commission (EC) has assured that ballot papers marked with pencil instead of pen will be accepted.

EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Yusof said although the commission had replaced the pen with pencil for this general election, some polling centres had unintentionally given pencils to voters.

"It is not an issue whether the papers are marked using pencils or pens.

"It will be counted provided the agents for the candidates agree to accept the papers," he told newsmen.

There have been reports that some centres had prepared pencils instead of pen for voters to mark the ballot papers.

Among the centres are in Kuching where four centres had been seen using pencils.
