GE13: MCA members to give up government positions
Sincere gratitude: Koh (third from left) and other division leaders thanking all those who supported them in Batu Pahat. KUALA LUMPUR: MCA representatives will start relinquishing their government positions following the party's decision not to hold any positions at the state and federal levels after faring worse in this general election compared to 2008.
In Cheras, members of the division's Youth wing relinquished their government posts yesterday.
Five members had let go of their posts as members of the health clinic advisory panel.
They were Datuk Sim Eng Peng, Teoh Chee Hooi, Tony Lew, Yap Tin Yew and Wong Joe Foong.
In Batu Pahat, deputy division chief Datuk Koh Chee Chai said party members who are councillors, village heads as well as hospital visitor board committee members would tender their resignations to their respective departments soon.
He said there were six Batu Pahat municipal councillors, four village heads and four hospital visitor board committee members.
“We accept the general election results and respect the wishes of voters. We also adhere to the decision from the party EGM not to hold any government posts as we were unable to get the mandate from the people,” he told a press conference.
Koh said they would try to resolve or follow up on all the existing cases or complaints.
On Sunday, MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek said the party would stick to its decision not to accept any government posts now that they did not do better than in 2008.
He added that the party EGM had made a resolution that if it won fewer than the 15 parliamentary seats it obtained five years ago, none of its MPs would take up any government posts, including minister, deputy minister or executive councillor.
The MCA won seven parliamentary seats this time around.
