GE13: More MCA leaders quit government posts
Datuk Teh Kim Poo KLANG: The spate of MCA grassroots leaders resigning from their government posts continue as they put into action the party's decision not to hold any positions at state and federal levels following the GE13 results which were worse than their performance in 2008.
Klang MCA chairman Datuk Teh Kim Poo announced the closure of its service centre with immediate effect.
“I cannot afford to pay the utility bills and salaries,” he said with Klang MCA Youth chief Datuk Dr Ching Eu Boon present.
Teh also announced the resignation of 15 members from the Pandamaran Village Development and Security Community (JKKP) and 12 MCA members from the Klang Hospital Visitor Board.
Asked if he would also resign as chairman of the Port Klang Authority, Teh said his contract only expires next April.
“As I was appointed by the King, I cannot relinquish my post,” he said.
In Ipoh, Perak MCA secretary Datuk Tan Chin Meng who is also Ipoh Barat MCA division chief, said a total of 26 members in the division had relinquished their posts in JKKP, as well as hospital visitor board committee members and councillors.
A total of 148 members from the Batu Gajah MCA division have resigned from their appointed positions, while 66 local leaders in the Lumut MCA division have also resigned.
Lumut MCA division vice-chairman Pan Chooi Xing said MCA leaders had resigned from JKKP, hospital visitor board panel and relinquished their posts as Manjung municipal councillors.
In Yong Peng, seven MCA councillors tendered their resignations from the Yong Peng District Council, said Ayer Hitam MCA division secretary Ong See Tian.
Five village heads and two hospital visitor board committee members had also resigned, he said.
On Sunday, president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek reiterated that the party would stick to its decision not to accept any government posts if MCA did not improve on its 2008 performance.
