GE13: Najib reminds MPs not to neglect constituents
Najib delivering his speech during a Barisan Nasional meeting at PWTC in Kuala Lumpur. KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has reminded Barisan Nasional MPs not to neglect any section of the electorate, including those in urban areas.
He also told the MPs to start serving their constituents immediately and ensure that Barisan's pledges were fulfilled.
This was among the messages the Prime Minister had for the 133 Barisan elected representatives du-ring a two-hour closed-door briefing which he chaired yesterday.
Jeli MP Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said Najib wanted them to identify reasons for the coalition's setback and act on them quickly.
“We need to do this because we want Barisan to remain inclusive and relevant to all segments of society,” he said.
Tanjung Malim MP Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan said the Barisan chairman also reminded MPs to give emphasis to urban voters so that the coalition would continue to enjoy their support.
“The Prime Minister wants us to start serving the people and said we should be responsible in carrying out our duties. He wants us to serve all Malaysians.”
Ong said Najib also suggested that MPs take up courses to improve themselves so they could serve their constituents better.
Hulu Selangor MP P. Kamalanathan said Najib told them that Barisan was heading towards change and the need to reach out to urban voters.
“He wants us to woo more people in urban dwellings to be on board with Barisan. We have the support of those in the rural areas and we are thankful to have their backing,” he said.
