High Court strikes out lawyer's claim over Bar EGM's legality

By M MAGESWARI

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court has struck out a claim by lawyer Mohd Khairul Azam Abdul Aziz challenging the legality of a notice for Malaysian Bar extraordinary general meeting.

Justice John Louis O'Hara held that the claim against the Malaysian Bar and Bar Council are obviously unsustainable, frivolous, vexatious and abuse of court process.

Mohd Khairul Azam is seeking to nullify the notice for the EGM relating to the Bersih 3.0 public assembly on April 28 last year issued by the Bar Council.

He claimed that a quorum may not have been reached, “phantom voters” were present, and that the EGM notice of May 4, 2012 violated the Legal Profession Act 1976.
