PETALING JAYA: Bloggers Papa Gomo and King Jason, who were detained on Tuesday for allegedly seditious and racist postings on social media, have been remanded to facilitate investigations.

Federal Commercial Crimes Investigation Department director Comm Datuk Syed Ismail Syed Azizan said King Jason has been remanded until Thursday and Papagomo, until Friday.

"We will decided whether if there's a need to extend the remand once it expires," he said when contacted Wednesday.

Comm Syed Ismail said King Jason was being investigated under Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998/Section 500 of the Penal Code, which carries up to a year's imprisonment or RM50,000 fine, or both, upon conviction.

Papagomo is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998 and Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act, he added.

He said police also were tracking down those who spread lies and incited racial sentiments on the Internet, especially on social media sites Facebook and Twitter.

"Our cyber security and multimedia investigation department is monitoring the Internet 24 hours a day."

On Tuesday, police moved to curb racial tension by arresting two bloggers after reports were lodged against their postings on social media.

The police reports alleged that the postings by Papa Gomo and King Jason were seditious in nature and fuelled racial sentiments and propagated lies.

Papa Gomo, 33, was picked up around 3pm at a petrol station in Danau Kota, Setapak, while 38-year-old King Jason was detained at about noon in Kampung Jawa, Klang.
