DAP will support action against Chinese dailies if sedition allegations proven true, says Kit Siang
By MARTIN CARVALHO
KUALA LUMPUR: DAP will support sedition charges against local Chinese dailies if they incited racial sentiments, said DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang.
"We welcome any action and will support that Chinese newspapers be charged for sedition if the Prime Minister can pin-point which newspapers are responsible and the articles," he told reporters at a press conference in DAP headquarters Wednesday.
He was commenting on Prime Minister Datuk Seri NajIb Tun Razak's defense of Utusan Malaysia's frontpage headline 'Apa Lagi Cina Mahu?' (What else do Chinese want?) and his allusion to Chinese newspapers being biased.
He said Najib should retract his statement and apologise to Chinese dailies, and also over his 'Chinese tsunami' remarks regarding the poll results.
He also refuted Najib's statement that the Chinese had been duped by DAP in pushing for a change in government via their votes.
"This is not the truth as DAP never said that the Chinese were able to change the government," he said, adding that the call for change was made to all Malaysians via the Pakatan Rakyat opposition pact.
Lim also drew reference to The Star's frontpage call for Malaysians to express their expectations of Najib's new Cabinet line up and stated DAP's own wish.
"It must comprise leaders who support Najib's 1Malaysia, and put Malaysians first above race or religion," he said.
He also said the Cabinet should have 30% women representation, with all members fully committed towards zero corruption.
He added that posts that deal with corruption, such as the Home Minister and Education Minister, should be given a three-year period to perform or be replaced.
