Welfare body to close due to lack of funds

GEORGE TOWN: After 17 years, the Bayan Baru Welfare Association is on the verge of closing shop due to lack of funding.

Its assistant secretary David Yim Boon Leong said chairman Heng Yak Hoi had verbally agreed to disband the association.

“We still have to discuss the matter with the committee members,’’ he added.

Yim, who is Bayan Baru MCA division secretary, said the division service centre which shared space with the association would also be closed for the same reason.

He stressed that the main reason the association and service centre was closing down was the lack of funds.

“But I will try my best to help the people. We will handle things on a case-by-case basis,” he said.

The association was started by MCA’s former Bayan Baru MP Wong Kam Hoong in 1996 to help the poor and underprivileged.
