Selangor urged to name non-Malay as deputy MB

FORMER Keadilan assistant general-secretary P. Jenapala has called upon the Selangor Government to appoint non-Malays as deputy Menteri Besar and Speaker, Malaysia Nanban reported.

He also called for two Indians to be appointed as state executive councillors.

He said that the Pakatan during its 11-month rule of Perak had appointed Indians as the speaker and also to the state executive council.

This was followed by the Barisan Nasional where an Indian was appointed Speaker while another was appointed as Special Adviser to the Perak Menteri Besar.


> Residents at a drought hit village in Thiruchengode, Chennai, performed a marriage for donkeys in a bid to appease the rain god on Monday, Makkal Osai reported.

The marriage ceremony was conducted in front of the Maduraiveeran temple in the village, which was witnessed by 1,500 villagers.

One of the organisers, A.M. Manickam said that they were badly affected by the drought, which has crippled the agricultural activities in the region.

He said that villagers believed that the marriage would appease the rain god so that the sky would open up.

He said that the marriage ceremony was performed with all the rituals followed in the marriage of humans.
