GE13: Papagomo and King Jason remanded over seditious postings

PETALING JAYA: The two controversial bloggers, who were detained for allegedly seditious postings on social media to fuel racial sentiments and propagate lies, have been remanded to facilitate investigations.

Federal Commercial Crimes Investigation Department Director Comm Datuk Syed Ismail Syed Azizan said King Jason was remanded until today and Papagomo until tomorrow.

“We aim to investigate the matter thoroughly.

“We will also see if there is a need to extend their remand orders,” he said yesterday.

He added that police were tracking down those who spread lies and incite racial sentiments on the Internet, especially on social media sites.

“We are not fooling around ... our cyber security and multimedia investigation unit is monitoring the Internet 24 hours a day,” he said.

Comm Syed Ismail said police were also tracking down a Facebook user who had posted a racially sensitive statement.

“We hope to detain the man soon,” he said.

On Tuesday, police moved to curb racial tension by arresting two bloggers after reports were lodged against their postings on social media.

The police reports alleged that the postings by Papagomo and King Jason were seditious in nature and they fuelled racial sentiments and propagated lies.

Controversial 33-year-old blogger Papagomo was picked up at about 3pm at a petrol station in Danau Kota, Setapak, while 38-year-old King Jason was detained at about noon in Kampung Jawa, Klang.

Comm Syed Ismail said King Jason was being investigated under Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998 and Section 500 of the Penal Code, which carries up to a year's jail or RM50,000 fine ,or both, upon conviction.

Papagomo was being investigated under Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998 and Section 4(1) of Sedition Act.
