KOTA BARU: A group of protesters gathered in front of the state secretariat complex here while another group submitted a memorandum to protest against Salor assemblyman Datuk Husam Musa's omission from the state government.

However, the PAS vice-president had appealed to his supporters to remain calm.

Husam said that though he was initially disappointed, he was no longer bothered about being left out of the exco, which he had served in for two terms from 2004.

Newly appointed Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob began work on his exco line-up and aims to be among the first states to have its executive councillors in place.

A state government spokesperson confirmed that Ahmad will announce the portfolios today after chairing a state PAS committee meeting.

“We want to move on with administering the state and finalise the exco portfolios quickly,” the spokesperson said.

This is the first time in 23 years that Kelantan will see a new mentri besar at its helm since PAS spiritual adviser Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, who has opted to retire, held the post since 1990.

The new faces in the exco line-up are Pengkalan Pasir assemblyman Datuk Hanipa Ahmad, Mumtaz Abdul Nawi, who is the sole woman representative, Bunut Payung assemblyman Dr Ramli Mamat as well as former state Speaker Datuk Mohd Nasuruddin Daud.

They replace Husam, Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan, who contested and won the Kota Baru parliamentary seat, Nik Abdul Aziz, and Kijang assemblywoman Wan Ubaidah Omar.

The old faces retained are Datuk Mej (B) Mohd Anizam Abdul Rahman, Datuk Anuar Tan Abdullah, Datuk Abdul Fatah Mahmood, Datuk Dr Mohd Fadzil Che Hassan and Datuk Che Abdullah Md Nawi.

Kelantan is expected to place emphasis on its community plantation schemes, which is modelled after the successful Felda plantations, as well as the services, trade and tourism sectors to boost its economy.
