110 flood victims in Kampung Rantau Panjang seek shelter at relief centre
Disaster zone: Kampung Rantau Panjang residents watching helplessly as floodwaters enter their houses. — Bernama KUALA SELANGOR: Flash floods that hit Kampung Rantau Panjang in Bestari Jaya here forced 110 people from 32 families to move to a temporary flood relief centre.
The flooding was caused by Sungai Rantau Panjang overflowing its banks following heavy rain on Tuesday night. The water level rose up to 1.5m.
Rantau Panjang Village Security and Development Committee chairman Rahim Mohd Yatim said the victims, comprising 40 men, 33 women and 37 children, were being sheltered at the village's community hall.
He said the flooding was the worst the village had ever experienced and the families suffered huge losses because they could not save their belongings.
He said various agencies like the Welfare Department, Kuala Selangor Land and District Office, Kuala Selangor Health Department, Civil Defence Department, Rela and police were extending assistance.
