GE13: Parties disputing results can petition within 21 days
PUTRAJAYA: Parties disputing the outcome of 13th general election can file a petition 21 days after the results have been gazetted, said the Attorney-General's Chambers.
Deputy Solicitor-General II Datuk Tun Abdul Majid Tun Hamzah said the High Court must finish the hearing of the petition six months after this was filed, adding that an appeal to the Federal Court must also be completed in the same period.
“As far as we are concerned, we will handle the election petition when it is filed,” Tun Abdul Majid said in the lobby of the Attorney-General's Chambers here yesterday.
He said there were also reports of voters being prevented by certain parties from voting in several places.
The Chambers, added Tun Abdul Majid, also received complaints of Election Commission (EC) officers committing offences while on duty on polling day, adding that these were still being investigated by the police.
There was also a report of a political party observer being ordered to leave by an EC officer for 30 minutes after the voting period ended and before the counting of ballots, he said. - Bernama
