TEMERLOH: Despite losing his parliamentary seat to the Opposition, Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah is not about to give up on his voters.

On the contrary, Saifuddin said he would continue to serve the people and win them over in the next elections.

"I am not disheartened and far from exiting the political scene.

"In fact, I am now looking for a new platform to reach out to the voters.

"I would be setting up a youth academy - one of my manifesto - to continue with my political agenda to serve my voters," he said in a press conference here on Thursday.

In the just-concluded elections, Saifuddin lost the Temerloh parliamentary seat to PAS Youth chief Nasrudin Hassan Tantawi by a majority of 1,070 votes. However, the number of spoilt votes was equally high at 977 votes.

Saifuddin said since he was no longer an MP, he could not set up four academies which were listed under his personal manifesto due to budget constraints.

He said once a suitable location has been found, he would operate his new service centre in the same site as the youth academy.

"The academy will provide three major orientations comprising education and training, research and publication.

"My aim is to make Temerloh as the top education hub in Pahang," he said, adding that full details on the academy would be announced in due course.

Meanwhile, Saifuddin said he would invite the Universiti Malaya Centre for Democracy and Elections to conduct a survey on why he had lost in the polls.

"I want to know the factors behind my defeat and since the centre is an independent body, the findings would be helpful to help me improve myself," he said.

Saifuddin also thanked all voters for coming out to cast their votes, resulting in a high voter turnout rate of 85.24%, surpassing that of the national average.
