GE13: Police to summon 28 Pakatan leaders over May 8 rally
By RASHITHA A. HAMID
PETALING JAYA: Police will call in 28 Opposition leaders over sedition and illegal assembly offences in relation to the Pakatan rally in Kelana Jaya stadium on Wednesday night.
Selangor police chief deputy comm Datuk Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah said the 28 were found to have delivered seditious speeches which violated Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 during the rally.
He also said the organisers failed to provide 10 days advance notice to the police before holding the gathering, as prescribed by Section 9(1) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
He said the irresponsible act by the organisers inconvenienced members of the public and caused massive traffic jams on all roads leading to and from the stadium.
He said police received notice of the gathering at 12.20pm Wednesday, and advised organisers to postpone it.
DCP Tun Hisan said if the organisers had postponed the gathering to another date, police could have advised them accordingly on the stadium's capacity and arranged for more parking bays to avoid traffic congestion.
