RECENTLY, my purse was stolen. After attending a conference on the autonomy of Malaysia’s higher education institutions (or lack thereof), I was searching for my purse to pay for parking when I realised that it was no longer in my bag.
What ensued was a level-headed, almost mechanical response while at the same time I fought against panic. I informed the conference organisers, met with the venue’s security, lodged a police report and called my bank to cancel all my ATM and credit cards.
