Cyclist Azizulhasni Awang began his quest for an Olympic medal in the sprint event by qualifying for the quarter-finals at the Velodrome in the Olympic Park yesterday.
But Azizul qualified through the repecharge round, having lost to Russia’s Denis Dimtriev in the round of 16 earlier.
Azizul beat Japan’s Seiichiro Nakagawa and Venezuela’s Hersony Canelon in the repecharge.
Earlier, Azizul clocked 10.266 to finish in 11th place in the first qualifying race to make the last 32.
He then clocked 10.149 to beat reigning Asian champion Zhang Miao of China and made the last 16.
The quarter-finals will be held today while the semi-finals and final will be tomorrow.
