Singaporean triathletes dominate KL race

KUALA LUMPUR: The third edition of the Kuala Lumpur International Triathlon saw Singaporean triathletes Mok Yin Ren and Victoria Campbell dominating the race at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa here yesterday.

The 17-year-old Yin Ren clocked 1'49:44 to beat compatriot and SEA Games-bound triathlete Cheng Jing Hean, who clocked 1'53:47.

Besides winning the men's 16-29 years category, Yin Ren also won the overall championship title.

“This is my first participation in the KL International Triathlon and I'm very happy to win it,” he said.

MOK: Won the men's overall title
“The race was tough. I'm not so good in cycling. There were many turns in the parks and it was quite difficult for me to navigate.”

In the women's category, Campbell retained her title. She clocked 2'01:25 to finish ahead of Malaysians Tang Lee Shen and Stephanie Chok. Lee Shen and Stephanie clocked 2'19:53 and 2'20:21 respectively.

The victory was a pleasant surprise for Campbell.

“I have just finished school and I'm working now. So there are changes in my lifestyle. But I'm happy that I can still win the race despite the lack of training,” she said.
