Squash: Nicol faces Grinham hurdles in gold bid

RACHAEL: Tipped to meet Nicol David in the final.
PETALING JAYA: The Grinham sisters – Rachael and Natalie – are potential hurdles for World No. 1 Nicol David in her bid to win a first-ever squash gold medal for Malaysia in the Commonwealth Games.

The Grinhams were named in the nine-member Australian team announced on Friday for the squash competition that will be held from March 16 at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.

With the seedings for the draw based on this month's world rankings, Rachael, the world No. 3, is tipped to face Nicol in the final. And the luck of the draw could pit Natalie, the world No. 4, against the Malaysian in the semi-finals.

Beside Nicol, the other women's players in the Malaysian team are Sharon Wee and Tricia Chuah.

Malaysia's challenge in the men's singles event will be carried by Mohd Azlan Iskandar and Ong Beng Hee. Australian world No. 2 David Palmer is the favourite for the title.

Nicol and Beng Hee will also team up for the mixed doubles. In the previous Games in Manchester in 2002, the duo bagged a silver medal in the event.
