Becker to contest custody of daughter
BERLIN: Former world number one Boris Becker has revealed he will launch a legal bid to obtain custody of his seven-year-old daughter Anna, according to a report in the German press yesterday.
Becker had a short liason with the girl's mother Angela Ermakova in 1999, both mother and daughter regularly appear in glossy magazines in Germany, while the retired tennis star has two sons from a previous marriage.
I have a custody order for my two boys, but not unfortunately for my daughter. Believe me, I will fight for the right, Becker told German weekly magazine Stern.
It is not something I am doing for publicity, it is something I want to do for the Becker family.
My daughter deserves to see her brothers and her father regularly, said the 39-year-old.
The three-time Wimbledon winner was confirmed as Anna's father in 2001 after he contested paternity following a brief, but now infamous, liaison with Ermakova in the cupboard of a London restaurant in 1999. AFP
