Alia puts older rivals to shame in chess event
KUALA LUMPUR: Malacca’s Alia Anin Azwa Bakri proved that age is not a barrier in the pursuit of success when she defeated much older opponents to emerge as the overall champion in the chess event of the National Women’s Games at the Commonwealth Hall in Bukit Jalil here yesterday.
The 13-year-old, who is also the national champion in her age group, won the Under-14 category and proved her mettle further by securing 8.5 points to be crowned the overall champion.
Nurul Huda Wahiduddin of Pahang was second with 7.5 points while Penang’s Chin Yuen Sue, who also secured 7.5 points, was third on countback. – Bernama
