Badminton: Hafiz’s Olympic hopes fading
High point: Wong Mew Choo is now ranked eighth in the world. In the latest world rankings list released on Thursday, the 25-year-old Hafiz lost his status as the countrys second ranked player when he dropped four rungs to 19th.
Three Malaysians are currently ranked ahead of him Lee Chong Wei (third), KLRC Bhds Lee Tsuen Seng (17th) and Wong Choong Hann (18th).
Only two Malaysians in the top 16 standings in next Mays world rankings list get to compete in the Olympics.
With his third-round defeat to Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia in the ongoing Taiwan Open, Hafiz is expected to drop out of the worlds top 20.
In the womens singles, national number one Wong Mew Choo achieved her career high when she moved up one rung to eighth in the world.
